A charming chalet in the Atlas mountains, one hour drive from Marrakech.
Located a 10-minute walk from Imlil and 1900 meters above sea level, Douar Samra is the dream of Jaqueline, a Swiss living in Morocco, who wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a chalet in the Swiss Alps in Morocco with local materials and a Berber staff. With its wooden structure and adobe, the guest house has its own small farm, with animals and gardens that provide the Douar Samra the freshest products possible. As soon as you arrive, Jules the donkey takes the luggage while you master the Wi-Fi passwords and the mint tea and meet the Shih Tzu pet dogs. The four bedrooms “Main House” are in wood and fully lit by candlelight; the garden house has three slightly larger mini-suites with electric lighting and a similar feel. All have fireplaces, private showers, funky cushions and spectacular mountain views. Located at the end of the organic gardens, the charming Tree House offers privacy. From the various terraces on Samra’s roof, the views extend from the vegetable gardens and fruit trees to the fertile valley of Imlil and the towering mountains above. Inside, an authentic wood- fire Moroccan hammam awaits you. The meals are taken together, around an open fire. Please also note that access to Douar Samra is by a steep and often slippery uneven path, so wear proper footwear when you arrive. Douar Samra is not suitable for anyone with problems of stability or balance. Beer and wine available on site. Best visited all year round.
