Chefchaouen and its surroundings – worth the stop for 24 hours.
Chefchaouen is no longer the hidden gem from a decade ago. Immortalized in zillions of Insta posts and even a Chinese soap opera having used it for its setting, it isn’t likely to fall off the radar soon. That is not to say that it isn’t worth visiting. Chaouen, as the locals call it, can easily be reached from Tangier via Tetouan and some dramatic gorges ( 2 hour drive) as well as from Fes ( 4 hour drive). In 2- 3 hours you’d have toured the whole village and its crannies and nooks. If you can be bothered, great trekking opportunities lie in the neighboring Riff Mountain valleys and gorges ( Bridge of God is one such local attraction) and local guides are plenty. All in all, you won’t need more than 24 hours here. It’s tricky to recommend visiting outside the peak Morocco season ( March – May/ September – November and NYE holidays) as we might not always be right.
