Riad Jaaneman is one of the most beautiful small riads in Marrakech in its price range. The Italian ownership may be to blame. Location is great, just around the corner from Dar El Bacha, where you can easily hail a taxi. You are 10 minutes walk from Jemaa El Fna square and 5 from the souks. This is a small, intimate house that could easily make the cover of Architectural Design. A deep, turquoise plunge pool dwells at the center of the main patio, between tall banana trees and feathery bamboo. The living-dining room, equipped with a comfortable TV-watching corner, runs around two-sides of the patio. It boasts a magnificent cedar- wood ceiling and is decorated with plum-coloured velvet sofas and red kilims. There are five large, luxurious and quiet rooms decorated in an international style that mixes Moroccan, Italian and African artefacts. The most private of them is Leale, the suite on the groundfloor, that wraps around its own tiny private patio, shaded by fan palms. The other four rooms are on the first floor and are just as stylish. You can sense the Italian taste in the bathrooms decked out in green, red and brown marbles and boldly-coloured tadelakt. The terrace is where late breakfasts and dinners are served and the views are magnificent. Local wine and beer are available. Best visited all year round.
