Style and hospitality in Essaouira, overlooking the Atlantic ocean.
One of our guests’ favorites, Perle d’Eau is one of the few riads in Essaouira that was built entirely from ground up and Ernest, the owner, will surely not fail to mention it to you. He likes to chat. Him and Gisele, his wife, make some of the most welcoming owners we know. I mean, how many times do you get to share the house with the owners, which have their own room ? Dinners are very highly rated, the fish tagines usually served in the lounge under the vintage carpets hanging on the walls, testimony of Ernest’s many years spent in Iran. Breakfasts are served on the roof terrace directly overlooking the Atlantic, unless the wind is too strong.
If you want that view throughout the day, spend a little more and go for one of the suites – it’s certainly worth the stretch. Some rooms may feel a little shady, if the sun hides behind the clouds – but how long are you going to spend inside your room, with all that Essaouira has to offer ? If you’re looking for 1001 nights, you won’t find it here – the decor, yet tasteful, is more substance over style: comfortable king size beds and cushions, impeccable cleanliness, quality bath products and attention to detail all around. Great selection of Moroccan wines available and, of course, Ernest is always on hand to advise the best to go with your meal. Best visited all year round.
